towards a General Election, they discussed the effect on motorcycle businesses of the burden of legislation imposed on them, which the Conservative Party has pledged to tackle through its regulatory agenda.

Speaking after the visit Mr Clifton-Brown said “Everything I have seen today has greatly impressed me, from the management side of the business to the craftsmanship and pride the staff take in manufacturing such an excellent product?”

“Businesses, in particular those in the manufacturing sector, have faced so many challenges since 1997 and yet Watsonian-Squire has overcome these. An incoming Conservative Government would be unashamedly pro-business precisely because of firms like this – they are the wealth and job creators that have all too often been neglected.”

The recent cessation of the reciprocal health provision agreement between the UK Government and the Isle of Man and Channel Islands is having a serious impact on UK motorcycle sport.

The Isle of Man TT and the Manx GP are significant revenue earners for both the IOM Govt and the UK Govt and for many years the Health agreement has enabled riders from the mainland to participate in Isle of Man events. The new arrangements are costing the sport in excess of £100,000 in additional insurance to enable riders to compete. In an already depressed sector, these additional pressures are having a detrimental effect on amateur sport.

RAV and the ACU calls for the UK Govt to revisit the agreement.

The campaign for the provision of testing centres moves forward a gear

In a two pronged attack, the Parliamentarians seem to be working with RAV. The day after Mark Williams MP asked probing questions in Parliament about the conduct of the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) and their failure to provide adequate m/c testing provision in Wales, Ann Main MP for St Albans has launched an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the House.

An early day motion, if it recieves enough signatures from MPs, can lead to the introduction of a private member’s bill, but it certainly raises awareness of the strength of feeling in the Commons about an issue.

Please read the text of the EDM, by clicking here, contact your MP and urge them to sign EDM 1002. It just might help save motorcycling as we know it.
